Escapement Wheel Pendulum Clock
As part of an introductory mechanical design course at UC San Diego, I designed, fabricated, and tested a functioning pendulum-based clock mechanism. The project focused on developing core engineering skills through CAD modeling (Fusion 360), laser cutting, hands-on assembly, and timing analysis. I analyzed the motion using both point mass and rigid body assumptions, calculating theoretical timing and comparing it against experimental results. By incorporating mass properties, moment of inertia, and center of mass calculations, I achieved a close match between prediction and performance. The project sharpened my understanding of dynamic systems, fabrication processes, and design troubleshooting—resulting in a fully operational clock I built from scratch.
